Trophies for the 18- Hole Season
The Georgeson Cup: 2019 Champion – not played
This “Inter-Island” tournament has been played between Salt Spring, Galiano and Pender Island annually since 1964. The Georgeson Cup was presented by Galiano Islanders, Ellen Stellygrass (nee Georgeson) and Arthur Georgeson. A team of 8 players from each club plays at all three courses and the team with the low net score overall is the winner.
The Rose Bowl: 2019 Champion – Jennifer Pickering
The Rose Bowl was presented to the club in 1931 by Mr. W. M. Carmichael, a Victoria silversmith. The Rose Bowl qualifying round is based on gross score. After that, a series of rounds of match play gross score games are played with qualifying players until a winner is determined.
The Evans Cup: 2019 Champion – Linda Tremblay
The Evans Cup was presented to the club in 1975 by Daisy Gear, an avid member, in memory of her mother, Mrs. Ellen Evans, a pioneer member of the club. This 18-hole stroke play competition is for players aged 65 or older. The cup is presented to the player with the low net score.
The Brooks Cup: 2019 Champion – Jane Hickie
The Brooks Cup was presented to the club in 1955 by Jack and Tot Brooks. This competition is an 18-hole stroke play event and the trophy is awarded to the player with the low net score.
The Bank of Commerce Cup: 2019 Champion – Kathy Luke
The Bank of Commerce Cup was presented to the club in 1972. This 18-hole low net competition has a low net qualifying round, followed by rounds of net match play until there is a winner.
The Marg Johnson Cup: 2019 Champion – Jill Thompson
Marg Johnson, a spirited member of the club, presented this trophy in 1967. The format is an 18-hole stroke play competition. The cup is awarded to the player with the low net score.
Bank of Montreal Cup: 2019 Champion – Dora Reynolds
In 1968, the local branch of the Bank of Montreal donated this “Perpetual Trophy”. It is awarded to the lady with the low net score after 18 holes of stroke play.
The Criers Cup: 2019 Champion – Franki Johnstone
The Criers Cup was presented in 1996 by Mrs. Ada Woodley, for competition in the Fall – for any players who have not won a cup in the current year. This cup is awarded to the player with the low net score.
Ladies Club Championship
This 2 day event has been in existence many years. The competition is open to all Lady Members with a valid handicap, (must be a full playing member in good standing). In order to include all the lady members, we have 2 flights of competition – one for lower handicap players, and one for higher handicap players. Awards, dinner and festivities follow the golf on Sunday. There are many fun events, prizes, raffles, door prizes – as well as awarding the 3 Club Championship Trophies:
The Wilson Cup: 2019 Champion – Carolyn Sharp
This cup was presented to the club by the Wilson Family in 1948. The Wilson’s owned the land when the golf club was first established. It is presented to the player with the lowest gross score over 2 days of play (no handicap).
The Bramhall Cup: 2019 Champion – Mary Lou Bompas
This cup was presented to the club in 1990 by Lilian McNulty and Edna Reddington. It is presented to the player with the lowest net score over 2 days of play (full handicap).
The La Belle Trophy: 2019 Champion -Mary Lou Bompas
This cup was first presented to the club in 2002 by Pat Lavender and Mona Coulter, and is open to ladies 65 years of age or older. It is awarded to the lady with the lowest new score (full handicap) over 2 days of play.
We encourage all lady members to come and join this annual event!!
Dolheim Cup competition: 2018 Champion – Europe
This is a fun two day “international” tournament held in October of each year – with Mt Brenton and SSI Ladies participating. It is a “take – off” and follows the same format at the International Solheim Competition.
The J.J.White: 2017 Champion – not played
is a small mixed tournament in September: a three club event between SSI, Ardmore & Pender.
