WELCOME to the Salt Spring Island Golf & Country Club!
Established in 1928 by a small group of local golfers, the course features tree lined fairways, water hazards, challenging lies and beautifully manicured greens. We pride ourselves on the variety of divisions made available to suit your golfing needs. From a competitive 18 hole league to more casual 9 hole leagues, we hope you will find a group which you can enjoy.
We pride ourselves on the variety of ladies divisions made available to suit your golfing needs. Our ladies division is an active group and we invite you to join our regular games, our tournaments, our button matches and our competitions with clubs on Vancouver Island. We have players of all ages and all abilities and many special events for seniors. Our year begins in April with a General Meeting, an opening day fun game and lunch. Similarly, we conclude with a business meeting in mid-October with a fun game and lunch for all members.
From a competitive 18-hole league to a more casual business league, we hope you will find a group which you enjoy.
Our Ladies Club has three Divisions:
1.Monday Night Ladies,
2.Tuesday 18-Hole Ladies,
3.Thursday 9-Hole Ladies.
You are welcome to join any or all of the divisions. Each one has its own $25 annual membership fee, which pays for trophies, awards and prizes. New members may play up to 3 times in any group before joining, and submitting the fee.
A Mentor Program has been developed to support new lady members. A number of the current members have volunteered to “buddy” with a new member to ensure she is familiar with all of the Ladies Divisions and Club activities. Soon after joining the club, a mentor will contact you to help in any way.
The Ladies Divisions organize, support and encourage women golfers. Girls and women of any age are urged to join the Ladies Divisions to enjoy new and old friends, improve golfing skills, and experience spirited competition on beautiful and challenging courses throughout the Gulf Islands and southern Vancouver Island.
Monday Night Ladies
Each Monday at 4:00 o’clock (holiday Mondays included), a group of ladies from the Club and the community get together to play 9 holes of golf. We have a varied group from beginners to advanced golfers. You can make new friends and have some fun while working on game improvement. Dinner and socializing take place afterwards in the clubhouse. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board and the cut-off for signing up is noon on Sunday. The draw is posted on the bulletin board and on line under Calendar of Events. We collect $1.00 each week for winners of KP and Putt Pot (optional). Pay prior to teeing off.
Monday Night Ladies play for two cups in their season of play. These are:
Business Ladies Low Gross and Business Ladies Low Net Trophies –were presented by the “Founding Group” in 1991. The founding members were: Jackie Vibe, Lana Proctor, Bev Lillyman, Janet Foster, Eileen Hunter, Melanie Iverson, Pam Mackenzie, Sally Walker, Carol Simpson, Jan MacPherson, Audrey Denton, and Linda Woodley.
Tuesday 18-Hole Ladies
The 18 Hole Ladies Division plays on Tuesday mornings from April to October. The season starts and ends with a 9 hole scramble and lunch to which ALL lady members are welcome.
The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board and the cut-off for signing up is noon on Sunday. The draw is made up on Sunday afternoon and is posted on the bulletin board and on line, so be sure to sign up in advance. Our fixture card, found as a separate brochure on line lists this season’s schedule which has a variety of play including fun games, stroke play and tournaments. The intent is to get to know each other, to play with different players each week, and to have a great day!
We collect $1.00 each week, paid to the Pro Shop prior to play, which is then paid out at the end of the event to the winner of KP’s (closest to the pin) and the player with the lowest number of putts. Participation in this novelty is optional.
New members are always welcome.
18 Hole Ladies Interclub Matches
The 18 – Hole Ladies play a series of games with other clubs which the Vice Captain arranges with the other club Vice Captains. Teams usually consist of 8 players, chosen by draw from a posted sign-up sheet. The sign- up sheet is posted on a Tuesday, two weeks before the event. Each team we play consists of two matches, one played at Salt Spring and one played at the course of the other club. The format is usually match play. We prefer you sign up to play both home and away matches, but please sign as a spare if you are only available one day. They are fun games, although we do try to win.

Thursday 9 – Hole Ladies
Ladies enrolled in our Thursday morning group generally start at 9:00 a.m. from April to October. During the summer months, this time may change slightly for an earlier start. This group provides an opportunity for those who are starting to golf or who only wish to play 9 holes. The season has a variety of play, including fun games, stroke play, interclub field days, and Cup days. The intent is to get to know each other and to play with different players each week. The sign-up sheet is posted on the ladies bulletin board located outside the Pro Shop, and the draw is done on Tuesday at noon. This too is posted on the notice board and on line at www.saltspringgolf.com. We collect $.50 each week for winners of KP and Putt Pot (optional). Pay prior to teeing off.

In August we have the three- day SSI Invitational Tournament. This is a fun event, open to all members, as well as members from other clubs.
There are also, numerous fundraising events over the golf season, starting in May and ending in Sept. We encourage you to come out and participate and support many local causes.
Pace of Play Hints: (Except when playing a “match play” competition)
*Declare at the first tee that it is ready golf.
*Be ready for your shot when it is your turn.
*Refrain from starting a conversation with another player if either of you are “up”
*Play ready golf on the fairway whenever possible.
*Continuous putt where you are not interfering with someone else’s line
*If a practice swing is part of your pre-shot routine, please limit it to one.
*Line up your putt before it’s your turn, so you are ready.
*Move promptly off the green and mark your score after you have teed off on the next tee.
*Pull the cart of the last person in your foursome so they can join the rest of the group on the fairway.
*If the next tee is open, send player(s) on to the next tee, particularly if there is a gap.
*When a fellow player is in the sand and you do not have the next shot, offer to rake the trap or pull bag for them towards the next hole.
The online booking program was installed in 2013. For online booking, Members need to register on the website, using the email address on file with the Pro Shop. This is the standard for the vast majority of sites that offer online booking of tee times. Please see the Pro Shop Staff for registration, and current online booking procedures.
